Myrtle Beach has been very slow in joining the food truck craze that has hit other cities oh, say years ago. While I’m not exactly sure of the reasons why, I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of the few. Charleston Flats specializes in savory and sweet flatbreads with some really creative toppings. Happily enough, I can also say that their offerings are super delish!
I happened upon the truck outside of the hair salon I go to and decided to give it a go. It was a difficult choice as to what to get- almost everything sounded tempting. The choice was made…eventually…for a Prosciutto Pleaser. Goat cheese, figs and pears accompanied the cured ham and all was topped with some thyme and a balsamic reduction. That heavenly mix and mingling of sweet and salty always gets me!
It took about 10 or so minutes to prepare the Flatbread, and what really surprised me was the crust. It had a nice ratio of crunchy pieces with some chewy pockets thrown in. Plus, it was sturdy enough to support the toppings without caving in!
I would definitely search out this little Myrtle Beach gem and try out their other Flats! Prices range from about 7 to 12 dollars, depending on what toppings are on the Flatbread. For anyone dying to try Charleston Flats out, their truck location info can be found on their Facebook page. Trust me, this is one of my favorite new concepts at the beach!
